Adam & Eve: Where and When in the Bible?
Biblical location: Genesis, first book of the bible, chapters 1-5 (scripture at bottom of the page)
Timeline location: The Tanak (Old Testament) is the 4,000 years before Messiah. Adam was created on the 6th day of creation week and lived for the first 930 of the 4,000 years before Messiah (Genesis 5:3-4).
Biblical Real Estate: The account of Adam makes up less than 1% of the biblical text (138 of the approximately 31,000 total verses).
Main Characters: Yahuah (Creator), Adam, and Eve
Could this Verse be True?
Now the man called his wife's name Eve, because she
was the mother of all [the] living. GENESIS 3:20
Worldly Explanation
1. There is no common ancestry, we evolved from chimp like creatures.
2. Humanity is thousands or millions of years old.
3. Through the process of natural selection, humans are getting "better."
4. We have different "races" because we are different kinds of people.
Bibilical Explanation
1. We all descend from one male and one female.
2. Humanity is relatively young, about 6,000 years old.
3. Humanity is degrading, each subsequent generation having more DNA mutations than the previous.
4. We are one human race as we all share common ancestral parents.
Adam and Eve, fact or fiction?
To most people, the idea of biblical Adam and Eve being historically accurate is preposterous. No way is humanity 6,000 years old. No way did we all come from the ONE male, and ONE female. No judgement, I was included in that group. I had NO IDEA science actually substantiated these claims made in Genesis. There's "science" to prove both the biblical account of single ancestry AND the young humanity. Take a look at the resources on this page, you may be surprised!

Yes. According to Wikipedia our DNA proves we all come from ONE WOMAN and ONE MAN, affectionately named Mitochondrial Eve and Y Chromosome Adam. You have to admit it's incredibly ironic, their names being "Adam" and "Eve" considering the scientific community's general stance on the historicity of the biblical account of creation. I don't pretend to understand the science behind how they determined we all come from the one male and one female. The Institute of Creation Research, provides following definitions:
Mitochondria are organelles in the cells of every human that carry a small amount of DNA. Mitochondria are inherited solely through the egg from the mother, allowing the identification of descendants from any female lineage. Variations in mitochondrial DNA between people have conclusively shown that all people have descended from one female, just as it is stated in Scripture (see article).
Y chromosomes are passed on to sons from their father, and just as mitochondrial DNA shows that all have descended from one female, Y chromosome analysis suggests that all men have descended from one common ancestor (see article).
Y Chromosome Adam
Y Chromosome Adam is the man "from WHOM ALL CURRENTLY LIVING HUMANS ARE DESCENDED." Science proves the biblical account of Adam.

Mitochondrial Eve
According to Wikipedia, Mitochondrial Eve "the most recent woman from whom ALL LIVING HUMANS DESCEND." Again, science confirming the biblical account of Eve.

According to wikipedia, Y Chromosome Adam lived between 200,000 and 300,000 years ago. While Mitochondrial Eve are "subject to substantial uncertainty" raging from 180,000 to 580,000, with an estimated range between 120,000 and 156,000 years ago.
Without being a geneticist, if we all came from ONE man and ONE woman. Would the pair need to have lived and procreated at the same time? What do I know?

Genetic Adam and Eve did not live too far apart in time | Nature
Yes. According to a study published in TRENDS in Genetics in Feb 2003: "If the high mutation rates seen in some human pedigrees were used to calculate the age of our most-recent female common ancestor, she would have lived just 6,000 years ago, a date more consistent with Biblical Even than Mitochondrial Eve." How are we not learning about this in churches and religious schools? Mind bending.
Here is a link to the study.
Scientists use the number of mutations in our DNA to determine the "age" of humanity. Our DNA mutates over time. Unfortunately, each generation having more mutations than the previous (see article). The number of mutations present in genome are used to determine the age of our species. The age of humanity can vary widely because the methodology for dating. This answer is probably above my pay grade but I'll give it a shot. Please do your own research!
The key is how they determine the RATE at which DNA mutates. There are two ways to determine the mutation rate:
1. Calculated rate: The traditional mutation model takes the assumed age of humanity (thousands or millions) and "back into" the mutation rate. You can imagine that produces a very slow mutation rate because the denominator of time is huge. To calculate the "age" of humanity, it would look at the number of mutations in the genome today, divide by the "mutation rate" and get the "age of humanity." Using this method, humanity is hundred(s) of thousands of years old. As there are revisions to the evolutionary timeline (as there often are) that necessarily changes the DNA mutation rate, which changes the "age of humanity."
2. Based on observation in people alive today: You could look at my grannie, my mom, myself and my daughter and look at the ACTUAL rate of DNA mutation from generation to generation over time. This is the second way to determine DNA mutation rates. There is no assumption for deep time and evolutionary influence. The DNA mutation rate is determined based on the actual mutation rate observed in real humans.
When the mutation rate is calculated based on DNA mutation rates that are observable today, the mutation rate is much faster. The difference? One rate is calculated based on the deep time necessary for evolution (huge denominator), but is not observable or repeatable. The second is based on mutations in real humans which are both observable and repeatable.
Based on the observable DNA mutation rates present in humans today, Mitochondrial Eve is more like 6,000 years old, not the hundreds of thousands of years using the evolutionary calculated rate.
Not reliable, according to the an article titled "DNA clock proves tough to set," published in Nature, Vol 519 in March of 2015. In the article, population geneticist David Reich of Harvard Medical School in Boston stated the following:
“The fact that the clock is so uncertain is very problematic for us,” he says. “It means that the dates we get out of genetics are really quite embarrassingly bad and uncertain.”
Here is a link to the article: 519139a.pdf (nature.com)
Yes. We are all from the same "family" sharing ancestral parents as proved by the "science." Making us ONE giant family. Pretty amazing actually.
Here's an example, genetic twins, born the same day. One with white skin and one with darker skin. How can these two be sisters? How is this possible? Contained within Adam and Eve were the DNA instructions for every beautiful variation or and physical trait we see present in humanity today. You see, skin color is just one of the attributes in our human genome, like eye or hair color.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth. Gen 1:2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of Elohim was moving over the surface of the waters. Gen 1:3 Then Elohim said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. Gen 1:4 Elohim saw that the light was good; and Elohim separated the light from the darkness. Gen 1:5 Elohim called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. Gen 1:6 Then Elohim said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." Gen 1:7 Elohim made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. Gen 1:8 Elohim called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day. Gen 1:9 Then Elohim said, "Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so. Gen 1:10 Elohim called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and Elohim saw that it was good. Gen 1:11 Then Elohim said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation: plants yielding seed, [and] fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them"; and it was so. Gen 1:12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and Elohim saw that it was good. Gen 1:13 There was evening and there was morning, a third day. Gen 1:14 Then Elohim said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; Gen 1:15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so. Gen 1:16 Elohim made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; [He made] the stars also. Gen 1:17 Elohim placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, Gen 1:18 and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and Elohim saw that it was good. Gen 1:19 There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. Gen 1:20 Then Elohim said, "Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens." Gen 1:21 Elohim created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and Elohim saw that it was good. Gen 1:22 Elohim blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." Gen 1:23 There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day. Gen 1:24 Then Elohim said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind"; and it was so. Gen 1:25 Elohim made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and Elohim saw that it was good. Gen 1:26 Then Elohim said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Gen 1:27 Elohim created man in His own image, in the image of Elohim He created him; male and female He created them. Gen 1:28 Elohim blessed them; and Elohim said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Gen 1:29 Then Elohim said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; Gen 1:30 and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, [I have given] every green plant for food"; and it was so. Gen 1:31 Elohim saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. Gen 2:2 By the seventh day Elohim completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Gen 2:3 Then Elohim blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which Elohim had created and made. Gen 2:4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that YAHUAH Elohim made earth and heaven. Gen 2:5 Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for YAHUAH Elohim had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground. Gen 2:6 But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground. Gen 2:7 Then YAHUAH Elohim formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Gen 2:8 YAHUAH Elohim planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed. Gen 2:9 Out of the ground YAHUAH Elohim caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Gen 2:10 Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers. Gen 2:11 The name of the first is Pishon; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. Gen 2:12 The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there. Gen 2:13 The name of the second river is Gihon; it flows around the whole land of Cush. Gen 2:14 The name of the third river is Tigris; it flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. Gen 2:15 Then YAHUAH Elohim took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. Gen 2:16 YAHUAH Elohim commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; Gen 2:17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." Gen 2:18 Then YAHUAH Elohim said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." Gen 2:19 Out of the ground YAHUAH Elohim formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought [them] to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. Gen 2:20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. Gen 2:21 So YAHUAH Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. Gen 2:22 YAHUAH Elohim fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. Gen 2:23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." Gen 2:24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. Gen 2:25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which YAHUAH Elohim had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has Elohim said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden '?" Gen 3:2 The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; Gen 3:3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, Elohim has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'" Gen 3:4 The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die! Gen 3:5 "For Elohim knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like Elohim, knowing good and evil." Gen 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make [one] wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. Gen 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. Gen 3:8 They heard the sound of YAHUAH Elohim walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of YAHUAH Elohim among the trees of the garden. Gen 3:9 Then YAHUAH Elohim called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?" Gen 3:10 He said, "I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself." Gen 3:11 And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?" Gen 3:12 The man said, "The woman whom You gave [to be] with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate." Gen 3:13 Then YAHUAH Elohim said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" And the woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." Gen 3:14 YAHUAH Elohim said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life; Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel." Gen 3:16 To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you." Gen 3:17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. Gen 3:18 "Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field; Gen 3:19 By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return." Gen 3:20 Now the man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all [the] living. Gen 3:21 YAHUAH Elohim made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them. Gen 3:22 Then YAHUAH Elohim said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever "-- Gen 3:23 therefore YAHUAH Elohim sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. Gen 3:24 So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.

Gen 4:1 Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, "I have gotten a manchild with [the help of] YAHUAH." Gen 4:2 Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. Gen 4:3 So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to YAHUAH of the fruit of the ground. Gen 4:4 Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And YAHUAH had regard for Abel and for his offering; Gen 4:5 but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. Gen 4:6 Then YAHUAH said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? Gen 4:7 "If you do well, will not [your countenance] be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it." Gen 4:8 Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Gen 4:9 Then YAHUAH said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" And he said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?" Gen 4:10 He said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground. Gen 4:11 "Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. Gen 4:12 "When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth." Gen 4:13 Cain said to YAHUAH, "My punishment is too great to bear! Gen 4:14 "Behold, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face I will be hidden, and I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." Gen 4:15 So YAHUAH said to him, "Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold." And YAHUAH appointed a sign for Cain, so that no one finding him would slay him. Gen 4:16 Then Cain went out from the presence of YAHUAH, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. Gen 4:17 Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son. Gen 4:18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael became the father of Methushael, and Methushael became the father of Lamech. Gen 4:19 Lamech took to himself two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah. Gen 4:20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and [have] livestock. Gen 4:21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. Gen 4:22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah. Gen 4:23 Lamech said to his wives, "Adah and Zillah, Listen to my voice, You wives of Lamech, Give heed to my speech, For I have killed a man for wounding me; And a boy for striking me; Gen 4:24 If Cain is avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold." Gen 4:25 Adam had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, [she said], "Elohim has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel, for Cain killed him." Gen 4:26 To Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then [men] began to call upon the name of YAHUAH.

Gen 5:26 Then Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty-two years after he became the father of Lamech, and he had [other] sons and daughters. Gen 5:27 So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died. Gen 5:28 Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and became the father of a son. Gen 5:29 Now he called his name Noah, saying, "This one will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands [arising] from the ground which YAHUAH has cursed." Gen 5:30 Then Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years after he became the father of Noah, and he had [other] sons and daughters. Gen 5:31 So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died. Gen 5:32 Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
