Sabbath Observance
Sabbath Observance
What I thought...
The bible tells us to go to church on SUNday (1st day). I assumed Sabbath was Sunday because that's when everybody goes to church to worship.
What I learned...
In the bible, nobody (including YHWH) ever asked anybody to worship the Most High on SUNday (1st day). YHWH commands us to REST on the 7th day (Saturday). YHWH repeats the law at least 26 times.
Sunday Church Attendance is the COUNTERFIT of Saturday Rest
The purpose of this post is not to address the lie of church, but the truth of Sabbath. However, to not point out the falsehood in the TRADITION of church would be remiss. YHWH designated a specific day at Creation as His, the SEVENTH day.
By the seventh day Elohim completed His work which He had done,
and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
Then Elohim blessed the seventh day and sanctified it,
because in it He rested from all His work which Elohim had created and made.
GENESIS 2:2-3
The 7th day of the week is Saturday. The 1st day of the week is Sunday. This is not conspiracy theory, just open your calendar and count the days.

The world goes to "church." Our Creator tells us to REST. There’s a huge difference between church attendance and rest. Further, the 1st day is not the day our Creator set apart for His worship and honor. Satan does not create his own "things," Satan takes the "things" of YHWH and creates a COUNTERFIET version. The world's church attendance is just that, Satan's counterfeit version of our Creator's command to rest. Satan doesn't care what day you worship so long as it's not the day our Creator designated. Seem outlandish? Research Sunday laws. To forego the Creator’s Sabbath rest on the 7th day for church attendance on the first day (SUNday) I fear is a grave error. It's sad beyond measure but not the purpose of this page.
More on What I Learned (additional blog posts below)...
Sabbath was my first real head scratcher and what prompted me to leave organized religion. Since then, I’ve thought about Sabbath a lot and I think the discussion boils down to three questions:
-
What did YHWH say?
-
Does YHWH mean what He says?
-
Can WE choose how to worship YHWH?
Let’s look at each point in more detail.
(1) What did YHWH say?
Prior to studying the bible myself, I assumed we were commanded to go to church. Of course, why else would people go? After the exercise of isolating the verses about Sabbath, I realized YHWH never asked anybody to go to church on SUNday, the 1st day. He clearly commands us to REST on Saturday, the 7th day. Go to church versus REST, two very different things. Further, I could not believe how much YHWH spoke about the topic of Sabbath. By my count, our Creator repeated the Sabbath law at least 26 times. There are well over 100 verses about Sabbath, all are at the end of the page.
Some think Sabbath worship is no longer required after Messiah. This thought is despite the FACT that both Messiah and the apostles were Sabbath observers. Further, YHWH explicitly said He will not change His SPOKEN COVENANT.
"My covenant I will not violate,
Nor will I change what has gone out of My lips.”
PSALM 89:34
What is the “spoken covenant” He is referring to? YHWH SPOKE, or should I say thundered, the 10 Commandments from Mt. Sinai (Exodus 20:1-17). The below verse defines "His covenant" as the 10 Commandments specifically.
"So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform,
[that is], the Ten Commandments;
and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.”
DEUTERONOMY 4:13
Let's recap. The 10 Commandments are HIS covenant. YHWH spoke the 10 Commandments and for good measure, wrote them with His own finger in stone tablets. YHWH says He is not going to change the rules that went out of His lips. The 4rth spoken commandment, is of course the Sabbath rest.
When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai,
He gave Moses the two tablets of the testimony,
tablets of stone, written by the finger of Elohim.
EXODUS 31:18
"YHWH gave me the two tablets of stone written by the finger of Elohim;
and on them [were] all the words which YHWH had SPOKEN with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly."
DEUTERONOMY 9:10
If you ask most people if it’s ok to steal, they’ll say no. Ok to murder? No again. Ok to worship other gods? Nope on that front too. Somehow, MAGICALLY the 4th, and ONLY the 4th commandment is now null and void. Christianity ignores YHWH's Sabbath law and teaches we can do Sabbath whenever day we want, the particulars are not important. To me, that doesn't make sense. Why would YHWH speak so often and give so much instruction on His Sabbaths if YHWH doesn't care how we recognize Sabbath?
Another point that got me is this: the 4th commandment is the only commandment that starts with the word “REMEMBER." The 4th commandment is also the longest commandment in length (10 Commandments below). I don't think that's by coincidence. YHWH specifically tells us when and how to observe Sabbath, sadly, SUNday church ain't it.
(1) "You shall have no other gods before Me. EXODUS 20:3

(2) "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, YHWH your Elohim, am a jealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. EXODUS 20:4-6

(3) Exo 20:7 "You shall not take the name of YHWH your Elohim in vain, for YHHW will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
(4) "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of YHWH your Elohim; you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For in six days YHWH made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore YHWH blessed the sabbath day and set it apart. EXODUS 20: 8-11
(5) "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which YHWH your God gives you. EXODUS 20:12
(6) "You shall not murder." EXODUS 20:13
(7) "You shall not commit adultery." EXODUS 20:14
(8) "You shall not steal." EXODUS 20:15
(9) "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." EXODUS 20:16
(10) "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor." EXODUS 20:17
YHWH blessed Solomon with "wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind" (1 Kings 4:29). Solomon was the "wiser than all men" (1 Kings 4:31). He wrote the book of Ecclesiastes where he evaluates and discusses the pleasures and toils of this life. The conclusion he draws is astounding. In the end, we are best served if we FEAR and OBEY YHWH's commandments because His commandments apply to ALL PEOPLE!

(2) YHWH stated Sabbath as a law, a lot. But does YHWH mean what He says?
Let’s revisit the garden. Eve told Satan if she ate of the tree, YHWH said she would DIE. Satan’s response, “Surely you will not die” (Genesis 3:4)! How did Satan get Eve to eat the fruit? Satan made her DOUBT YHWH meant what He said. Eve KNEW YHWH said she would die, but doubted YHWH was actually serious. You see, the original deception was getting Eve to believe YHWH didn’t really mean what He said. I believe Satan’s still using the same deception he used in the garden. No need to recreate the wheel, just rinse and repeat. Did YHWH mean what He said about Sabbath? Yes, He meant what He said about Sabbath, just as He meant what He said to Eve in the garden. It's that simple.
(3) The last question, can we choose HOW to worship YHWH? Does He care? Any worship is good worship, right?
Umm.. not so much. The Hebrews decided to have a little party in His honor at the bottom of Mt. Sinai. They thought He’d be thrilled. They made a statue (golden calf) and proclaimed, “Tomorrow shall be a feast day to YHWH” (Exodus 32:5). Let’s just say YHWH was not impressed.
The conclusion, when all has been heard:
fear Elohim and keep His commandments, because this [applies to] every person.
ECCLESIASTES 12:13
"Now then let Me alone,
that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them;
and I will make of you a great nation."
EXODUS 32:10
The feast was to honor HIM, so what's the big deal? The big deal is this: YHWH specifically said NOT to worship Him the way the other nations worshipped their gods. In reality, the golden calf incident reveals that the Israelites chose their own day and method to worship YHWH. They repurposed and reapplied the worship practices they learned while in Egypt to the Most High. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to “make up” or repurpose ways to worship Him. How do I know? YHWH specifically tells us NOT to.
"You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree.
You shall tear down their altars and smash their [sacred] pillars and burn their Asherim with fire, and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods and obliterate their name from that place.
"You shall not worship YHWH your Elohim that way.”
DEUTERONOMY 12:2-4
…beware that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed before you,
and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying,
'How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?'
"You shall not behave thus toward YHWH your Elohim,
for every abominable act which YHWH hates they have done for their gods;
for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.
"Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it."
DEUTERONOMY 12:30-31
Some people after reading YHWHs words on adopting the worship of other nations respond, we’re not sacrificing children! That misses the WHOLE point. The Israelites missed the point then in the same way SUNday church worshippers miss the point now. The point is not WHAT someone is doing. The point is DID HE ASK YOU TO DO THAT? If the answer is NO, then why do you do it? YHWH specifically says we are not to add or take away from what He commands. What do we do? Subtract Sabbath rest and add Sunday church attendance, exactly what He told us NOT to do. YHWH gave specific instructions regarding how to worship Him, including Sabbath rest. There is absolutely NO NEED for a man-made version of weekly worship.
Conclusion
Somewhere along the way, the Sabbath day of rest commanded by YHWH was changed from the 7th day of the week to the 1st day of the week. Unfortunately, most people have no idea this change occurred at the council of Nicea almost 300 years after Messiah died (read more here). Further most don't understand Sabbath is a day of REST. We get six days to do our lives, He asks for one. As in the whole day, not a couple hours.
I suspect most people simply go to church on SUNday because that’s what everyone else does and/or that’s the day they were taught to attend. With little biblical and historical study, it becomes clear that church attendance on SUNday is a tradition of man, not a requirement of the Creator. Why not rest on the 7th day like HE said? Why not just obey? Why are most churches worshipping on SUNday instead of Saturday? Messiah states unequivocally that the law will NOT change until this earth has passed away. As far as I can tell, the earth is still here.
"For truly I say to you,
until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law
until all is accomplished.”
MATTHEW 5:18
Unfortunately SUNday is the day people have been worshipping sun deities since the Tower of Babel. Worship on SUNday is worship of the SUN, not YHWH. There's a difference. YHWH specifically warns of engaging in sun worship.
"And [beware] not to lift up your eyes to heaven
and see the sun and the moon and the stars,
all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them,
those which YHWH your Elohim has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.”
DEUTERONOMY 4:19
YHWH specifically calls the Israelites out for their made up worship. It's easy to miss, but notice how YHWH says YOUR feasts and YOUR appointed times. They are not HIS appointed times, they are the made up appointed times the Israelites created. Unfortunately, history has a tendency of repeating itself. We are doing the same thing today with made-up SUNday church.
"I hate YOUR new moon and YOUR appointed feasts,
They have become a burden to Me; I am weary of bearing [them].
ISAIAH 1:14
The scary truth is sun worship is worship of the light, or more accurately, the light bearer. Satan. For this EXPRESS reason, applying sun worship (aka Satan worship) to the Most High is a big no, no. Our adversary doesn't care how we worship, as long as we don't worship the way YHWH commanded. I fear those who refuse to worship YHWH as He commands are walking on the wide path that leads to destruction. I realize the weight of this statement. I hope I'm wrong.
"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction,
and there are many who enter through it.
"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life,
and there are FEW WHO FIND IT.”
MATTHEW 7:13
One certainly doesn't have to look very far to find a church. How then can church be a part of the narrow road few will FIND. I've written much more about sabbath, see additional posts below. Finally, in all my research about Sabbath, one verse sealed the deal. Through the prophet Isaiah, we learn all of humanity will bow down to YHWH from SABBATH to SABBATH in the NEW HEAVEN AND NEW EARTH. Sabbath worship is ETERNAL. Let that sink in.
"For just as the new heavens and the new earth
Which I make will endure before Me,"declares YHWH,
"So your offspring and your name will endure.”
"And it shall be from new moon to new moon And from SABBATH to SABBATH,
ALL MANKIND will come to bow down before Me," says YHWH.
ISAIAH 56:22-24
